The versatile Rossouw is equally adept at lock or in the back row but has played the majority of his senior career on the flank. The 31-year-old veteran has made 25 appearances for South Africa at flank, 11 at No 8 and 10 in the second row and is currently just four Tests shy of the magical 50 mark.
He made a try-scoring debut for the Springboks at the 2003 World Cup in the resounding 72-6 pool stage victory over Georgia in Perth. He was selected for South Africa’s 2007 World Cup squad when Pierre Spies was ruled out of the tournament with blood clots on his lungs.
Rossouw suffered what looked like a campaign-ending injury in the pool clash against Tonga as he was stretchered off the field with a neck injury. However, he recovered and played an important part in the knockout out stages, scoring a try against Argentina in the semi-final and executed a crucial try-saving tackle on England winger Mark Cueto in the final.
In 2009, he came on as a replacement against the British & Irish Lions in the first two Tests, was similarly used as an impact player in the triumphant Tri-Nations campaign and was one of the standout players on the end-of-your tour of Europe.
Rossouw is a long-time servant of Bulls rugby and has won a remarkable five Currie Cup titles and two Super 14 titles with the Pretoria-based union.
