Hennie le Roux made his Springbok bow at flyhalf in the 20-all draw with France in Durban on June 26, 1993. He played most of his early international career in the pivotal No 10 jersey before he moved to inside centre where he found his true niche. Le Roux played a total of 27 Tests, 15 at centre and 12 at flyhalf.

His largest personal tally was in the 27-9 win over England in Johannesburg in 1994 where he scored a try and kicked three penalties for a total of 14 points. By 1995, he had cemented his place at inside centre and formed a formidable midfield pairing with Transvaal teammate Japie Mulder.

Le Roux played in all six games of South Africa’s triumphant World Cup campaign and along with Mulder did a fantastic job to contain the legendary All Black centre pairing of Walter Little and Frank Bunce in the historic 15-12 win over New Zealand in the final.

He played a further seven Tests in 1996 and made his final international outing in the 37-20 win over Wales at the Millennium Stadium on December 15. Le Roux continued playing at provincial level until he hung up his boots in 2000. He showed his class once again in his penultimate season when he won the 1999 Currie Cup with the Lions and earned a nomination for SA Player of the Year.
