Riaan Viljoen is a versatile South African rugby player known for his powerful kicking abilities and his career in both domestic and international rugby. He has played primarily as a fullback, but can also cover fly-half and center positions. Viljoen started his professional career with the Sharks and later represented Griquas and the Cheetahs in the Currie Cup and Super Rugby.
One of his most memorable moments was his 62-meter penalty kick for Griquas, which demonstrated his exceptional kicking power. Viljoen also had a stint in Japan, playing for the NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes in the Top League, where he appreciated both the playing experience and the country's culture. Although Japan's league was tough, he remarked that it was less professional compared to South Africa. After his time in Japan, Viljoen returned to South Africa and expressed a desire to possibly rejoin the Sharks, reflecting on the professionalism of the team.
In addition to rugby, Viljoen enjoys playing golf and has ambitions of moving into coaching to pass on his knowledge to the next generation of players.
