Henry Tromp, born on 29 December 1966 in Otjiwarongo, South West Africa (now Namibia), was a strong and physical hooker who represented the Springboks in 1996. Educated at Klerksdorp High School, Tromp built his reputation in South African domestic rugby with several provincial unions. He began his senior career with Northern Transvaal in 1988–89, moved to Western Transvaal between 1990 and 1992, and had a stint with Natal in 1993 before returning to Northern Transvaal, where he played from 1994 until his retirement in 1997. Tromp earned four test caps for South Africa, making his debut against New Zealand at Kings Park in Durban in 1996. He featured in further internationals that year against New Zealand, Argentina, and France, and also appeared in a number of tour matches, scoring a try. Known for his scrummaging power and commitment in the tight exchanges, Tromp was part of the Springbok squad during a competitive period in the mid-1990s.
