Dick John Muir caused something of a surprise earlier this year when he left Natal (for whom he had played 149 games) and linked up with Western Province, immediately being named as captain. He scored a brace of tries for the Province in the 38-21 defeat by the British Lions earlier this summer and has proved a steadying influence in arguably South Africa's most explosive provincial back line. He has represented South Africa at Barbarians, President's XV and Sevens levels and was on the Springboks tour of Argentina, France and Wales last year before making his Test debut on this tour.
