Adrian “Apie” van der Hoff, born on 24 September 1887 in Vryburg and educated at Kimberley Boys’ High School, was a member of the renowned 1912–13 Springbok tour to the British Isles and France. Although he did not play in any test matches, van der Hoff made a strong impact in the tour games, crossing the tryline 10 times against provincial and club opposition. A versatile and energetic back, he contributed significantly to the overall success of the team, which won all five of its internationals and most of its midweek fixtures. He later lived in Lichtenburg, where he is believed to have passed away on 9 March 1970.
