Arno Botha was born on 26 October 1991 in Nylstroom (now Modimolle) and attended Nylstroom High School, where his strong all-round athleticism quickly marked him out as a future forward of promise. A powerful ball-carrier with good pace and handling skills, he developed into one of the most dynamic loose forwards of his generation.
Botha represented the Blue Bulls at junior level and progressed rapidly through the provincial structures, earning selection for the South African Under-20 side that competed in the 2011 IRB Junior World Championship. His consistent performances at flank and No 8 for the Bulls in the Currie Cup and Super Rugby competitions brought him to national attention.
In 2013 he was called up to the Springbok squad by coach Heyneke Meyer and made his Test debut against Italy at Kings Park in Durban, followed a week later by a second appearance against Scotland in Nelspruit. Injury soon after curtailed his international opportunities, but he continued to serve the Bulls with distinction over several seasons, becoming known for his powerful running and uncompromising defence.
Botha also had successful stints abroad, representing London Irish in England and Munster in Ireland, where his professionalism and leadership earned respect among teammates and supporters alike. Returning later to the Bulls, he provided valuable experience in a young squad, helping guide the team through domestic and international campaigns.
A player of strength, commitment, and versatility across the back row, Arno Botha remains remembered as a formidable loose forward who combined physicality with a keen sense for support play.
