CHARLES HENRY JONES. - Rugby footballer, athlete, gymnast and hockey player. At Rugby he played full back and was the finest full back who ever played in South Africa. Tall, well built, and scaling about 12 st., strong and muscular, a splendid field, a great kick, and capital tackler, he was the beau ideal of a full back. Played in the Currie Cup' tournament in 1898 for the Transvaal. Played for South Africa against the third British team at Johannesburg and Kimberley, played for the Transvaal in the Currie Cup tournaments at East London and Johannesburg, and was Captain of the Wanderers since 1903. As a runner he was the finest sprinter in South Africa in 1903, 4 and 5. He died this year when in his prime, being struck by lightning whilst walking to his office.
