Some people become famous because of a single match; others become famous because of one good break which leads to a try; but seldom does a man become famous because of one tackle. But it was one tackle which focused the attention of the world on Joggie Jansen when he tackled the All Black, Wayne Cottrell, as he got the ball on the blind side.
That tackle turned that first test match at Loftus in 1970 in our favour, and enabled us to beat the so-called "Invincible All Blacks".
It was by virtue of that tackle that Jansen became prominent and later we discovered that there was indeed more to Joggie Jansen than just his tackling ability. Much more. In fact he was a fine all-round centre.
